Investments

High-quality watches, manufactured in limited quantities by Patek Philippe and Rolex, are investments that are relatively solid and can increase in value over the years.

Particularly beautiful and rare gemstones are also small treasures with great value – relatively solid, of low volatility and independent of the financial markets. Coloured gemstones of high quality and rare size are sought after worldwide but rarely found. Naturally, they have their price. Over the last few years, the prices for rare rubies, sapphires, emeralds and spinels have increased and even doubled in some cases.

Diamonds have a much larger market than coloured gemstones. Their price development rather follows the economic situation and proceeds in a more controllable way. Nevertheless, the prices have risen in the last 20 years depending on size and quality and even doubled in some cases.

What are the risks? Gemstones are not so easy to sell as for example shares and bonds. The investor should therefore pay attention to the rarity and thus to the size, colour and clarity of the preferably untreated gemstone. When buying gemstones, it is recommended to seek the advice of an expert (gemmologist) and to obtain a certificate from a gemmological laboratory such as the Swiss Gemmological Institute SSEF or the Gemmological Institute of America GIA.
